The CPC programme is unique – most compliance programmes are only a design standard, ensuring the boat design is safe but the workmanship doesn’t comply to a code.
The CPC programme is different. An independent marine surveyor visits each CPC manufacturer annually to make sure the boats are built not only to the CPC standards for safety, but for workmanship as well.
All manufacturers building to the CPC standard are also members of NZ Marine so when you buy a CPC boat you not only have the backing of the manufacturer, but also the NZ Marine Industry Association as well.
Coastguard New Zealand’s job is to make sure people in boats are safe on the water. The CPC programme checks that boats are built safe before they hit the water so it is in the Coastguard’s interest to have some input into what is deemed a safe boat.
